Our Story

Semiblack is a home-grown Singaporean business, currently centered around Japanese kitchen knives, sharpening accessories and coffee equipment. The brand is dedicated to bringing the professional kitchen into your homes.

Hi, I’m Harvest, the founder of Semiblack. This business started after my ramen store had closed down, and I was put on an indefinite no-pay leave at my new workplace due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

As I barely had any savings then, things were tough and I had to find a source of income. I started the business selling sharpening stones and other random items on Carousell, and thankfully business picked up. Reinvesting all that I had earned, I was able to expand the business into the broader selection of items you see today.

That first leap of faith has now grown into a community from all walks of life. We’ve met endearing home cooks, coffee enthusiasts, and cafe owners who have supported and grown with us. In turn, we’ve also been able to support other small knife makers and businesses. Whether you’re new here or a long time customer - we will always warmly welcome you.
