Hatsukokoro is a brand that works with many blacksmiths, sharpeners and knife manufacturers from all over Japan in order to bring you knives with an excellent quality to price ratio. This doesn't mean their knives come cheap, but the quality of finishes, heat treatment and grind that you get for every dollar paid would exceed the industry average. Among their line up are knives made by Nakagawa, Yoshikane, Myojin, Yauji, and many more. Many collections are specifically commissioned and produced for Hatsukokoro and you won't be able to see these lines with any other brands.

Crafted by the renowned blacksmith Yoshihiro Yauji from Echizen, Japan, this knife is part of the Hatsukokoro's Saihyo Kurozome series. The word Saihyo means "Diamond Dust". It may be difficult to see from our pictures, but the finish on the blade is incredibly dazzling. The jet black Kurozome finish is contrasted by a brightly polished nickel damascus suminagashi pattern which is slightly golden in colour. When viewing in person, it almost resembles gazing into the distant galaxies where thousands of stars light up the otherwise empty and black space. All this becomes even more spectacular when taking into account this fact - Yauji forges, grinds, finishes, and sharpens, all by himself.

The good parts don't end there. The Saihyo series features an SG2 powdered steel core with a HRC of 62-63 for an incredible edge retention. As for the grind, it is incredibly thin and can be considered a true laser.
