Naniwa Sharpening Angle Guide
Naniwa Sharpening Angle Guide
Only the angle guide is for sale. The whetstone, whetstone holder, knife, masking tape, hands and Apple Watch are for illustration purposes only. Whetstone, whetstone holder and knife available for seperate purchase :)
While we typically recommend freehand sharpening as it allows you to adjust the angle of sharpening regardless of the height of the blade. We do have many customers asking for a quick and easy way to sharpen on a whetstone without the struggle of finding the correct angle.
While it isn't a perfect solution, the Naniwa Angle Guide can get you to a decently sharp edge, with significantly less learning curve.
Since the Naniwa Angle Guide is not adjustable, the angle it creates is determined by the height of the blade being sharpened. The taller the blade, the lower the sharpening angle.
Blade Height ~ Sharpening Angle Ratio:
45mm ~ 12 Degrees
36mm ~ 15 Degrees
30mm ~ 17 Degrees
26mm ~ 20 Degrees
IMPORTANT: To protect your blade from scratches, we recommend placing masking tape over the area of the blade where the sharpening guide sits.
Additionally, we found difficulty with clipping the guide on blades above 3mm thick. If you have a thicker blade, the sharpening guide may not work.
