Timemore Whirly 01S Portable Electric Coffee Grinder

The Timemore Whirly is a portable battery operated coffee grinder that produces exceptional cups of coffee.

Inside are Timemore's new S2C burr set - the S2C-042-EI. Compared to earlier versions of the S2C, this burrset has 8 flanges as opposed to the traditional 6 flanged design. Based on Timemore's testing, this burr set produces a rounder, sweeter and fuller bodied cup of coffee. Ideal for espresso with medium to dark roasts. 

While this grinder is geared towards espresso, it can also grind coarser for filter coffee or french press. For filter, you can expect clarity to be lower, as this burr set produces a more rounded and sweet cup with little flavour seperation. The coffee tastes approachable, but not as vibrant and acidic as many filter lovers enjoy. 

As far as we can recall (we have been selling Timemore for a long time), Whirly is Timemore's third portable electric grinder. The first was the Grinder Go, with E&B burrs and a plastic build. It was a capable grinder, but its grind size adjustment was too wide, such that dialing in espresso was not ideal. Each click changed the grind setting too much. The second was the Millab E01, with the S2C890 burrs and machined aluminium everything. This grinder is exceptional, built like a tank, has great grind size adjustments and great flavour profile. It even has a dock which allows it to replace your home electric grinder. The only problem - it was pricey. 

The Whirly sits in between the two. It's priced similarly to the Grinder Go, and is almost as capable as the Millab E01. Its build quality is in-between the two grinders as well, with a main aluminium body and a plastic hopper and catch cup. Timemore has a habit of taking the best from its high-end products and placing them in their more entry level collections. I think the Whirly, as whimsical as its name sounds, is a very mature product. It shows how far Timemore has come in terms of product design and engineering.
