Tsunehisa translates to "Permanence", named after the idea that good knives will last you a lifetime. The brand prioritises functionality and affordability - resulting in a carefully curated selection of knives that anyone can appreciate. Tsunehisa's knives are made by a collective of blacksmiths and sharpeners across Sakai, Tosa and Seki. The brand was founded by Takayuki Shibata, world reknown for being an excellent knife sharpener and also the founder of Masakage, Koutetsu & Tinker. Over the years, Shibata-san has built close relations with many skilled blacksmiths across Japan, playing a huge role in growing the presence of Japanese kitchen knives internationally.

波(Nami) translates to waves in Japanese. The Tsunehisa Nami series features a damascus pattern reminiscent of a surging wave. The blade is etched and polished to make its damascus pattern extremely striking.

Combined with its lacquered oak wood handle this knife reminds us of a brown tabby cat :)

Handcrafted in Tosa, the AUS10 steel core is hardened to between HRC60 to 61, allowing the knife to achieve an edge retention similar to the popular VG10 used in many mid-range Japanese knives. These knives are ground somewhat thin with light convexity to the sides, allowing this knife to effortlessly slice through produce.
